Reactions And Sharing On Social media Concerning Shannon Gerber Passing

A HERO GONE TOO SOON: Let us Never Forget our sister Officer Shannon Gerber. Mason Birkbeck – “As broken as my heart is, Shannon was not just my other half. She was the shield in the darkness that protected so many people throughout her career as a Police Officer and School Resource Officer for the Doylestown Police Department-Wayne County, Ohio.

There will be many tears, sadness, memories and teary laughs these coming weeks, but I wanted to share this sentiment with you all.

Ofc. Shannon Gerber, or as many of you in Wayne County knew her as “Unit 609”, was a beacon and the epitome of what every civil servant should aspire to be. She never failed in her duties as a law enforcement officer and always held steadfast in resolve to get the job done.

Shannon went a step further in duties, as she served as the School Resource Officer for the Chippewa School District as well. She always downplayed her role as the “kindergarten cop”. The facts couldn’t be any further from that statement. Shannon took it upon herself to investigate the most heinous crimes done children, crimes you only read about on that click bait post on Facebook. But they were real, they happened at 9 a.m in the morning on a Tuesday, or 2 a.m on a Saturday. If you needed someone, Shannon was your first call and she never went home until the job was done.

Shannon decided to hang her boots up in December of last year. A decision she took weeks to make and it was not made lightly. But this is not where her civil service ends.

Shannon transitioned her love for children to becoming a program supervisor the Village Network, Therapeutic Stabilization Center. There she helped misguided children suffering mental health crisis through the worst times in their lives.

I’ve said in my previous post how I will continue our legacy, there a second legacy that will continue.

I will always be faithful to my civil service, just as you were for many years. I promise to you, as I have many times before, that I will not hesitate to walk away if it comprises my mental health.”
