Sharon Johnson Death

Sharon Johnson Death | Obituary – Sharon Johnson age 69 has been identified as the victim that was shot and killed while riding a city bus in Lincoln on Thursday.

Joel Jones, 27, was arrested for second-degree murder in connection to the shooting, while 19-year-old Jarell Wheeler was arrested for accessory to second-degree murder.

Jones was also lodged for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, discharging a firearm near a vehicle and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said Jones fired a single shot from a moving vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of the bus, which entered the bus and struck Johnson while she was seated. Bliemeister said Wheeler was driving the car at the time.

According to LPD, the shooting appeared to be a random act, but an investigation will determine a motive.

According to LPD, around 2:38 p.m., officers responded to the report of a shooting near 23rd and A street.

The lone passenger on the bus, which was traveling eastbound, was shot by the bullet that entered the driver’s side of the bus, according to Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister.

The female victim was shot where she was seated. She was taken to a local hospital by Lincoln Fire and Rescue where she was pronounced deceased.

LPD said they are attempting to notify family members, canvassing the area for witnesses, and searching for digital and forensic evidence.

We express our sympathy and deepest condolences to Sharon Johnson’s family today and in the days, weeks, months, and years that are to come as they cope with her passing. May her soul rest in peace.
