Syracuse Woman Drowned To Death – The investigation is ongoing by the State Police to determine the cause of the drowning that happened on Wednesday morning, July 15, 2020 on the St. Lawrence River east of Kring Point State Park.

According to the commander of the state police’s Ogdensburg station, Trooper James E. Smith, the victim is identified as a 28-year-old female from Syracuse.

At 8:45 a.m, The U.S Coast Guard and rescue divers responded to reports of a canoe overturning with two people(a male and female) on board.

The rescue team were also assisted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police helicopter and rescue squad.

According to Trooper Smith, the male passenger was able to make it to the shore safely and is being interviewed on what happened.

The drowned victim has just come into the area for about a month working as a property caretaker.

The 28-year-old was not wearing a life jacket and did not know how to swim.

The investigation is till ongoing.

Pending notification of her next of kin, her identity was not released.
