Suspect in Shooting of Kansas Deputy Found Dead – Kevin Trahern age 49 who was suspected in shooting and wounding a Kansas sheriff’s deputy has been discovered dead inside the home, on Sunday.

Gray County sheriffs’ deputies responding at about 10:50 p.m. Friday to a call of a domestic disturbance questioned two people who had exit the residence, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. The deputies became concerned for the safety of the 49-year-old homeowner, Kevin Trahern, who was still inside.

At about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, three deputies entered the house through a back door to try to locate him. As a deputy started down the basement stairs, Trahern fired shots through the basement door, striking a deputy three times, the KBI said.

The deputy returned fire and all deputies retreated to safety. A standoff ensued.

The deputy, who was shot in his legs and foot, has been released from the hospital, the KBI said.

Law enforcement officers entered the residence at 1:40 p.m. Saturday and found Trahern dead inside from what authorities believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
