Tyler Blevens Death – According to Kentucky police, a man was shot and killed by troopers after he blocked himself inside a home, on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Tyler Blevens, of Shepherdsville.
According to KSP, Blevens was wanted for several felony warrants which includes wanton endangerment of a police officer, around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The Shepherdsville Police Department officers approached Blevens trying to make contact with him, but he barricaded himself inside of a home on Mandarin Court.
The KSP Special Response Team had to go in to assist Shepherdsville officers around 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday and they continued negotiations with Blevens.
Post 4 Trooper Scotty Sharp said: “Typically in a situation like this, what will happen is they will try to reach the person on intercom or either by phone, and try to talk to them, and we always want it to end peacefully. That’s our ultimate objective each and every time.”
According to Sharp’s report, at exactly 6 a.m, Blevens left the home with a gun and attempted to get a vehicle. He was instructed several times by the officers to drop his weapon but he did not respond.
That was when a trooper shot and killed Blevens.
When Sharp was asked if the deceased pointed the gun at officers, he said the investigation is still ongoing.
In Sharp’s word, “Right now, it’s still early in the investigation. That’s what investigators back there are right now trying to do, trying to figure out exactly what happened and what transpired leading up to (the shooting).”
According to one of the neighbors, Devin Childers, he told WAVE 3 News that he watched for several hours on Tuesday night, as police swarmed the neighborhood. He said he went inside his home before troopers fired shots, but found out what happened in the morning.
“It was a wild scene,” he said.
“They had snipers set up on the corner down there. We saw several officers with guns walking around. There must’ve been 50-60 cop cars here last night.” concludes Childers.
The Bullitt County coroner pronounced Blevens dead at the scene, says KSP.
