University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy community have mourned the death of Zachary Winston.
The University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy community is deeply saddened by the passing of Zach Winston, a graduate from the class of 2018. Our support and prayers are with the Winston family. We are respecting the family’s wish for privacy during this difficult time. Zach’s parents remain an integral part of our school community, with his mother, Wendi, being on the Board of Directors, and his father, Reginald, is an assistant basketball coach.
Our trained crisis counselors are meeting with students, faculty, and staff starting today and continuing over the next few weeks as needed. We will be providing parents information about common reactions following a suicide, how adults can help youth cope, the emotional needs of teens, and the risk factors and warning signs of suicide.”
Zach is a brother of Michigan State basketball star Cassius Winston. He was struck to death by an Amtrak train Saturday night.
